Paulo Ferreira de Castro

Paulo Ferreira de Castro studied musicology in Strasbourg and London, obtaining his PhD from Royal Holloway, University of London. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Musicology at NOVA FCSH in Lisbon. Between 1992 and 2000, he served as Director at the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos (Lisbon Opera House). He was the inaugural President of the Portuguese Society for Music Research and President of CESEM (Centre for Music Studies at NOVA FCSH). Since 2022, he has been a member of the Directorium of the International Musicological Society. He has published music criticism and studies on 18th- to 21st-century music in several languages and has delivered numerous lectures and scholarly papers in Portugal, other European countries, and the USA, Canada, and Brazil. Among his recent publications is the co-edited volume Intertextuality in Music: Dialogic Composition (Routledge).
